October has been a month of preparation and building. The second phase of our three month mission training emphases TENTMAKERS took place, cabana reconstruction, and renovation of our girls dorm began. Then a baptism highlight closing the month out. Take a look below for more information and thank our Lord for the answered prayers and successes for this month.
TENTMAKERS: Making Jesus Known in Work & Life
We’ve come to understand that to send Filipino missionaries to Asia they must go able to support themselves in some way. With that in mind Missionary Jimmy Walker headed up providing our students with exposure to possible occupations they might use to support themselves on the mission field. Student’s got hands on experience in: baking, cutting hair, teaching English, computer technology, wood working and other skills. Next month we will welcome Buddy Johnson and Eric Johnson to complete phase three, helping to train our students and pastors in DCPI training. (Dynamic Church Planting International)

The wood working seminar made pews for our mountain mission.
It was exciting to load the pews, (Filipino style) and take them up the mountain. Believe it or not they didn’t fall off and we unloaded them and set them up at our Aghu Mountain Mission.
Our mission has a mission!
So we loaded up the old benches and took them over to our new mission church.
This new mission congregation was so excited to use their “new” benches in their worship service.
After worship we headed through the village, across the valley, down to the river for the mission’s first baptism of seven new believers.
Badly needed renovations on the girls dorm has FINALLY begun. First, deconstruction of the wooded second floor to add a concrete floor with new rooms & rest rooms.
This favorite student hangout, “the cabana” is getting a new more durable “nepa” roof and bamboo make over. Students are heading up the work.
Two of Bacolod’s biggest festivals are Chinese New Year in February, year of the Pig, and Maskara, October 26-28. Lacson, our main street, is shut down for parades, street vendors, talent contests and music. It is Halloween on steroids.
TRUE VINE BAPTIST MISSION IN SILAY
Kenneth Avancena is a 2017 graduate working as a new missionary in Silay just up the road from the Bible College. It is a mission of True Vine Baptist Church in Bacolod. I was glad to join them in worship.
MISSION 2:10 is our early idea to plant 200 churches in 10 Asian countries in ten years. Based on Luke 2:10. Our plan is to send missionaries as “tentmakers” (Missionaries who work a secular job to support themselves while church planting). Pioneer BMA missionaries came to the Philippines over 40 years ago. Their work has grown into a mature church, ready to take the Gospel to other countries. This is a huge work in progress, so lots more to come.
CONSIDER HELPING US TAKE THE GOSPEL TO
UN-REACHED PEOPLES OF ASIA
Our beloved friends and missionaries Doug and Diane Lee have two months until they return to us in the Philippines. They would be glad to visit your church and share the work we are doing here. Contact them at (601) 427-0128
Many church groups ask us all the time about coming with work crews. There are ALWAYS needs, but we do have some priorities. Of course anyway anyone could help will bless our students. Right now we have close to 70 students. We are expecting an increase of 20 to 25 students each year over the next two years. This will increase our campus population to approximately 120 students. The campus conditions will never rise to U.S. standards, but we certainly would like to do the best we can to provide comfortable living condition for these dear people who will take the Gospel throughout Asia Pacific. Don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions.
F R O M S T A N
It is our great joy to serve here in the Philippines. What was thought to be a bad cold, turn out to be a UTI for Donna. So, a 7 day stay in the hospital for IV antibiotics. She’s home now and recovering.
November will be very busy as the college choir prepares for concerts and a tour to Dumaguete. Eric Johnson, director of BMA International Missions and Buddy Johnson, Eric’s Dad, pioneer missionary to Mexico and DPCI trainer will be here for our annual Bible Conference.
Keep an eye out for future reports.

No one likes to be in the hospital and especially in a foreign country. After 7 days I can now manage this UTI from home.
This year there will be five American missionary kids having Christmas away from their homes for the first time. Consider making Jimmy & Julie Walker’s kids feel a bit “special” with some Christmas cards to Judd-13, Adley-11, Nolan-9, Emory-7 and Silas-4. Send them to:

Our work is completely focused on making sure the Gospel is taught here in our weekly house Bible study, the sending of the Gospel to Southeast Asian countries, the training of pastors and missionaries at the Bible College and church planting here in the Philippines and all over Asia Pacific. Would you help us? $100 a month pays tuition, room and board for a pastor, missionary or church worker who will take the Gospel to every tongue, tribe and nation. Click on the donate button below, go to my Scroggins/Philippine fund and give anything you can to help us. We love you all.
